Meet Me in St. Louis
...meet me at the fair? The Gateway Arch?
No? Ok, how about Busch Stadium? The new Busch Stadium anyway, for tonight's All-Star Game.
Born and raised south of the Mason-Dixon, baseball was something that was just naturally drilled into my bones. I grew up a National League fan (Braves), moved to the Midwest over ten years ago and discovered the American League (Twins).
For that reason, the All-Star Game is always a treat for me. Old favorites, new favorites, the cream of the crop, best of the best, all gathered under one roof... or dome... or most likely, just open sky. America's pastime at its finest - no pennant-racing, no team rivalries, just pure baseball.
Last year, Yankee Stadium in NYC hosted the 2008 All-Star Game. Minnesota Twin Justin Morneau scored the winning run in the 15th inning by tagging up on on the Rangers' Michael Young's pop out to right field. This win secured the AL's 11th consecutive win (I'm not counting the tie in 2002 one way or the other). The game was also the longest All-Star Game in history at 15 innings played in 4 hours and 50 minutes.
This year's game will be held in the "New" Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, and airs tonight on FOX at 8:00PM ET. Let's hope it's decided in less than 4 hours, but you can bet I'll be watching it and pulling for the AL's 12th straight win.
Are you an American or National League fan?
